Lanterna comprises an optical assembly in cast aluminium supplied complete with wiring. The diffuser is cylindrical and made from acrylic.

The optical assembly in mirrored aluminium enables a high degree of uniformity of light to be produced. Lanterna uses high-technology fluorescent lamps, particularly Philips' QL which combines the traditional advantages of fluorescent lamps, such as a high chromatic yield, and the advantages offered by modern electronic technology.

Their long life of 60.000 hours eliminates the repeated maintenance of the unit and so leads to considerable cost savings.
